The ESRI GEO Portal provides many search options. To make the most of the ESRI GEO Portal capabilities, keep in mind the following tips for the search syntax:

A query is broken up into terms and operators. There are two types of terms: Single Terms and Phrases. A Single Term is a single word such as air or quality. A Phrase is a group of words surrounded by double quotes such as "air quality".

Terms may be combined together with operators to form a more complex query. To find content that contains both single terms whether they follow each other or not use air AND quality. You can search in certain parts of the metadata. For example to search for items that contain the term WMS in the title of the metadata, use title:WMS. Terms may be modified using a wildcard. For example to search for items that contain the term ortho anywhere in the metadata as a complete word or as part of a word, use ortho*.

The ESRI GEO Portal provides quick access to community portals for Societal Benefit Areas. Select the Societal Benefit Area of your interest from the list to learn what GEOSS is working on in that area.

Using the Social Networking tool Twitter, you can connect with other GEO users. This widget will list tweets that use the hash-tag #GEOSS. Use this hash-tag in your tweets when you are looking for geospatial resources to alert other GEO users of your questions. Through collaboration, you will further increase the effectiveness of GEO.

This list shows the most recently added or updated items in the ESRI GEO Portal. You can inspect a more detailed description of the item using the Preview link. For certain types of resources, the ESRI GEO Portal offers a simple Preview tool. This allows you for example to view OGC WMS or ESRI ArcGIS Server Map Services.

You can also view the new content interactively, by clicking the Search button on the homepage without any search criteria.
